Bogotá, Colombia

Colombian emeralds, described the way you'd want them described.

The selection

Stones

First selection arriving

Every stone is chosen in person in Bogotá, one at a time, against a written brief — not bought as a parcel and sorted afterwards. The first selection is small on purpose.

If you tell us what you're looking for now, we'll look for it while we're there. There is no obligation and nothing to pay.

How we describe stones

Almost every emerald on earth has been clarity-enhanced with oil or resin. The degree of that treatment can move a stone's value by several multiples, which is precisely why so many listings are vague about it.

So here is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the one you should hold any seller to.

  • We assume every stone is enhanced and say so, rather than implying otherwise through silence.
  • We don't claim an oil grade we haven't paid a laboratory to establish. A GIA report grades clarity enhancement as F1 minor, F2 moderate or F3 significant. Until a stone has one, we say it hasn't.
  • Origin is stated as Colombia and nothing finer. No stone is attributed to Muzo, Chivor or Coscuez unless a laboratory report attributes it. Mine names sell; unverifiable mine names are how buyers get hurt.
  • Colour descriptions are our own observation, in plain words, never dressed up as a grade. No laboratory issues a colour grade for emerald the way one does for diamond.
  • Photographs and video are unretouched, shot under consistent light against a grey reference. No saturation, no filters, ever.
  • Weights and measurements are taken at the bench and confirmed independently on any certified stone.

Certification

Independent GIA certification is available on any stone before it ships, billed at cost. It reports origin and grades clarity enhancement. Allow three to four weeks.

Inspection

Stones ship fully insured and tracked. Any stone may be returned within ten days of delivery for a full refund, for any reason.

Payment

Card or bank transfer; transfer is preferred above $1,500 and is what most trade buyers use. Prices in USD, exclusive of duties and taxes at the destination.

Who we are

The house

Tú eres Ramírez, heredero directo de la joyería familiar de tu abuelito. Emeralds — a Ramírez tradition

Several of the emerald dealers working in Bogotá today came out of that business. His own shops are gone. This is the same trade, carried on by his grandson — working directly with the family bench that remains, selecting stone by stone rather than buying parcels unseen.

What's different is the documentation. A stone bought over a counter in Bogotá typically travels with nothing: no certificate, no measurements, no record of what it cost or where it came from. That gap is the reason this exists.
